Years ago, on my honeymoon for my second marriage, Jen and I went to Kauai. I was kinda cranky about going to Hawaii. It seemed so expensive and unnecessary. It really was beautiful. I regret being such a crank bucket. Perhaps I was just exhausted from months and months of exhausting wedding prep. I hope after all these years, Jen forgives me. I still am kind of convinced that Hawaii is a lot like Mexico but 10 times more expensive as you’d expect from a place where almost every single thing has to be shipped over.
Anyway, we went to Kauai and it was gorgeous and surprisingly wild. There were colorful fish that darted around you when you swum in the warm ocean. It rained almost every afternoon for about an hour. It was golden hour all day, and the sky was dramatic and stormy looking. One afternoon, we sat at a low-key restaurant and ate $15 hamburgers and I drew this single-line contour drawing. Recently, I watercolored it.
